Film & Video Production. Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere.
// Indie Film Production
2005 has been a redeeming year for the film and production industry
in Portland, Oregon. The commercial arm of the industry has seen
successful campaigns for both local and national agencies and brands
led by Limbo Films. The feature film industry has also seen an inspiring
spark for both big name movie companies as well as indie
films. In total, five feature films have been shot in Oregon
this year with indie films contributing to the bulk of the filming.
Dreamworks filmed “The Ring II” in Astoria, Oregon in the summer
of 2004. Independent films “Donut Hole,” “Caught in the Act,” “Sisters,”
and “Are We There Yet” also completed filming bringing a generous
pool of work and profit to Oregon.
Recently elected Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has made his commitment
to feature, general video and indie film production well known since
taking office. Kulongoski was quoted on July 20, 2004 in The Hillsboro
Argus as stating, “ Film
production means millions of dollars in direct spending increased
tourism, and high paying jobs. I am determined to make Oregon competitive
with Canada and other states for this business. We’ll do that through
the creation of incentive programs that will help attract new production
to Oregon.”
One of Oregon production’s most famous indie film production directors
is clearly Gus Van Sant. His commitment and passion to creating
independent films has spanned decades. In 1989, indie film “Drugstore
Cowboy” put Portland on the national radar of film production. Continuing
through 2003, Van Sant has been behind the lens of many indie film
productions.
