Crisp, clear storytelling, excellent rapport with talent and a taste for subtle humor give Greg Penner’s work a rich, satisfying flavor.  Working with actors, celebrities or real people, Greg is a talent-oriented director who excels at capturing the reality of the moment.

Creating believability on television is tricky business, Greg believes.  “It requires a kind of invisibility, in which the artificial aspects of the commercial medium disappear and we accept the story being presented as real, even though we know it is not.  Even when the concept is not reality based, if the world we create in the spot holds true to its own reality, the audience will buy in.”

Greg has a long and diverse history telling these kinds of stories.  He spent 9 years as staff director at Tyee Euro RSCG, a production company/agency hybrid in Portland Oregon.  Working as part of the agency team, Greg often directed shoots on which he was the sole agency creative representative. His clients include GMAC, Callaway Golf, The Home Depot and Lego.  He has a continuing relationship with Publicis/Hal Riney and their Sprint PCS client that has resulted a dozen shoots for over 20 DVD, CD and film projects.

In addition to his commercial work, Greg has written and directed a very short film, and documentary projects for a variety of organizations.

Greg worked his way up the production ladder, spending several years as an Assistant Director before moving into the driver’s seat.  This experience gives him a deep knowledge of production mechanics, a background that serves him well as a director.

Greg graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in communications.
