Gary Nolton began his career in his hometown Los Angeles, California after attending the prestigious Art Center College of Design working as a camera assistant on commercials and TV series. What was to be a summer vacation to Portland Oregon ended up as a permanent move and he soon opened Nolton Studio in 1985. His success as a commercial photographer for ad agencies nationwide inspired the 1998 launch of his film production company, Limbo Films, where he has concentrated on shooting TV spots ever since.
Consistently one of the Northwest’s most successful director/cameramen, Gary has worked for an impressive list of agencies across the United States: Bernstein Rein, Borders,Perrin,Norrander, DDB Needham, Dentsu/Tokyo, Element79, EURO-RSCG, FCB, Fahlgren, GSD&M, Hunt-Adkins, McCann Erikson, Rodgers/Townsend, Rubin-Postaer and Wieden & Kennedy.
His client list is equally impressive: ABC, Adidas, Alltel, Bonita Bay, Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Del Taco, Dunlop Golf, Gatorade, Honda, McDonalds, Microsoft, NIKE, Outdoor Life Network, Precept Golf, SBC, Tommy Bahama, Wellmark-Blue Cross and many others.
20 years of experience with agencies and clients has honed his ability to work with anyone under any conditions. Agency creatives clamor for his compositions and beautiful lighting. Producers consistently note his ability to work quickly to achieve striking footage with copious editorial options.
Gary also specializes in working with celebrities & professional athletes. Michael Jordan, Andre Agassi, Garth Brooks, Martina Navratilova, Shaquille O’Neil, Nick Faldo, Picabo Street, Mia Hamm, David Robinson, Nolan Ryan, Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzky and Gabrielle Reece have all stood before his camera.
His work has been recognized by the Telly Awards, Communication Arts Magazine, The New York Art Directors Club, The London Art Directors Club, Best in the West, and the Portland Rosey Awards. Also of note, Nolton’s black & white poster image of Michael Jordan titled ‘Wings’ hangs in the permanent collection of the United States Library of Congress, as well as his 10 year old’s bedroom. |
